Lazer Sport 50

It’s the summer of 2009 and my Lambrettas aren’t breaking down. Hard as I may try, they keep on running. I guess that’s the whole idea behind the concept of down tuning them. Well well. What sucks is that there’s nothing to work on! But me loves the tinkering! So what better to brighten up a foggy August weekend than a new project?

Here it comes. A top tank Minarelli V1 driven Lazer 50 Sport. Don’t know too much about mopeds yet, but this little sucker looks the part and there are a few tuning options available. I think frame wise it is similar to a General 5 Star.

I picked it up from a local scooterist who needed to get some space in his garage. $100 bucks later it’s in the workshop. I am just figuring out how it works. There is a clutch lever on the engine that needs to be actuated so the chain drives the crank. This is different from the Peugeout 103 I’ve been working on that has an automatically engaging starter clutch. There is also a centrifugal clutch that autamtically engages when the bike hits certain RPMs just over idle. But the engine isn’t running yet so that’s something for the future.

Here’s the pictures. Hope to update this as the ped progresses!
